General Surgery Program Overview
Mount Sinai’s general surgery team is comprised of highly trained surgeons who treat conditions affecting the entire body, including the abdomen, vascular system, and chronic wounds. Experts in minimally invasive options, our general surgeons have pioneered laparoscopic techniques for gallbladder disease, common bile duct stones, anti-reflux surgery, hernia repairs, and appendectomies, as well as colon, small bowel, and gastric resections.
Our multidisciplinary team remains at the forefront of surgical advances and has been performing minimally invasive procedures since 1989. As with all of Mount Sinai’s departments, you can rely on receiving the most comprehensive treatment plan for your surgical needs. Our team collaborates with multiple specialties, including gastroenterology, urology, neurosurgery, vascular, nutrition, and internal medicine to create personalized treatment plans that focus on delivering the best results.
Education
Mount Sinai is proud to have the third longest-running surgical residency program in the state of Florida, originating in 1954. Each year, we train 21 residents to become expert surgeons who are able to handle the most complex surgical cases, making them incredible assets in serving our community. Our surgical residency program allows us to use the latest technology and research, delivering more treatment options, better care, and the best results for each patient.
Research
Mount Sinai’s general surgery team is involved with the latest research trials on gallbladder and hernia surgery. All of our general surgeons are members of the Americas Hernia Society and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, where they stay up-to-date on the latest evidence-based care.
