A career in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) demands technical skill, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate the most consequential moments in a patient’s life. At Mount Sinai Medical Center, residents develop these capabilities through four years of progressive OB/GYN training, combining the clinical resources of a nationally recognized medical center with the close faculty engagement of a three-residents-per-class program.

As part of our program, residents will encounter the full clinical spectrum of obstetrics and gynecology, with substantial labor and delivery experience that begins in their first year, as well as have opportunities to work alongside specialists in maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, and minimally invasive surgery. Residents will also have opportunities to train at Jackson Memorial Hospital, a major academic medical center with specialized expertise in high-risk pregnancies, and Cleveland Clinic Weston, which will extend your clinical experience across South Florida.

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Mount Sinai Medical Center offers residents the resources, faculty expertise, and access to the complex care of a major academic medical center, combined with the intimate patient care experience unique to a community hospital. Each year, the program welcomes three residents who will work closely with faculty, take an active role in patient care, and gain instruction in specialized services while serving South Florida’s diverse patient population.

• Robust labor and delivery experience. Residents being training in labor and delivery early in residency, in order to establish a strong foundation in obstetrical care.
• Continuity with patients. In clinic, residents care for their own patients under faculty supervision, experiencing ongoing physician/patient relationships in the context of gynecological and prenatal care.
• The full range of medical and surgical training. Residents learn the gamut of obstetrics and gynecology care, including labor and delivery, gynecologic oncology, high-risk obstetrics, urogynecology, and reproductive endocrinology. Training includes a diverse range of operative cases, management of complex patients in the ICU setting, and rotations through the emergency department.
• Training beyond the Mount Sinai campus. Residents will have the opportunity to rotate at Jackson Memorial Hospital, gaining experience in Level 4 complex obstetrical care at a nationally recognized maternal-fetal medicine program and one of the largest NICUs in the country. Residents also have the opportunity to rotate at Cleveland Clinic Weston to continue building a strong surgical foundation.

Four Years of Progressive Clinical Training

The four-year curriculum builds clinical experience progressively, with residents gaining exposure to different patient populations, clinical environments, and areas of OB/GYN practice as they advance through residency. Across the 48-month program, residents take on increasing clinical responsibility while learning in the clinical setting, with education integrated into patient care, teaching, conferences, and procedures.

Obstetrics and Gynecology Conferences

The following conferences are part of the core OB/GYN residency curriculum, supporting clinical practice, teaching, scholarship, and professional development (PD).

At Mount Sinai, residents complement their core experience with clinical training at affiliated sites across South Florida and elsewhere, gaining experience in maternal-fetal medicine, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, community-based women’s health, and complex family planning.

• Jackson Memorial Hospital: Residents gain experience in maternal-fetal medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital, caring for patients with high-risk pregnancies and complex fetal conditions. The rotation provides exposure to advanced obstetric evaluation and management, as well as in utero surgery.
• Cleveland Clinic Weston: Residents gain additional experience in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Cleveland Clinic Weston, complementing their operative training at Mount Sinai with exposure to laparoscopic and robotic approaches.
• Miami Beach Health Center: Residents gain experience in ambulatory OB/GYN care at the Miami Beach Health Center, a federally qualified health center that serves the diverse South Florida population. The rotation complements hospital-based training at Mount Sinai by giving residents experience in community-based outpatient prenatal and gynecologic care.
• Maimonides Medical Center: Residents seeking to train in complex family planning (advanced contraception, abortion care, and the management of complicated reproductive health needs) can spend a portion of their training at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

At Mount Sinai’s Miami Beach campus, residents work and learn in state-of-the-art facilities alongside expert physicians, nurses, extenders, therapists, and technicians.

Labor & Delivery Unit

Residents spend substantial time caring for obstetric patients in a unit with dedicated spaces for labor, delivery, recovery, and cesarean births. At Mount Sinai, we are in the midst of a multimillion-dollar capital improvement project, with a renovation and expansion of our current mother-baby unit. Incoming residents will have the opportunity to practice in the brand-new space.

Operating Rooms and Surgical Tower

In the Skolnick Surgical Tower, residents gain operative experience as their surgical training advances throughout residency. The tower opened in 2019 and includes 12 operating rooms and Mount Sinai’s newest surgical facilities.

Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center

Your training in gynecologic oncology will take place at the newly opened Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center, an integrated cancer treatment facility that brings multiple disciplines together under one roof in a modern setting designed for healing.

OB/GYN Resident Clinic

The Mount Sinai OB/GYN Resident Clinic gives residents the opportunity to practice in a hospital-based, outpatient setting.

Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program is an ACGME-accredited, four-year program that offers three positions each year.

Applications are accepted through ResidencyCAS. Applicants must also participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

• An MD degree or equivalent must have been awarded within 10 years of application
• An observership, externship, or other U.S. clinical experience is not required

• Mount Sinai Medical Center sponsors J-1 visas only

Interview Process

Once a completed application is received, the selection committee reviews all application materials. Applicants selected for an interview receive an email invitation from the Program Coordinator. Interviews are conducted from December through January. Preference for interviews is generally given to applicants who have signaled our program.
