Supporting High-Quality, Compassionate Care for Our Community

Now and for Generations to Come

Dr. Semyon and Janna Friedman

Semyon and Janna FriedmanDr. Semyon and Janna Friedman are dedicated philanthropists, passionate about providing high-quality health care. Dr. Friedman was a Chemical Engineering professor at Kiev Polytechnic University and continued his career in education at Johns Hopkins University. Additionally, he established several successful health care companies across the United States. Janna was a concert pianist in Kiev, USSR, until her immigration to Baltimore, Maryland, where she became a beloved music teacher at the Peabody Conservatory until her retirement. After relocating to Miami, the Friedmans committed themselves to advancing medical research in South Florida and keeping in the spirit of their background, they established a framework for critical medical research at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

The Gift

The Friedmans established the Semyon and Janna Friedman Advanced Research Institute, or ARI, at Mount Sinai Medical Center. “We fell in love with Miami Beach and wanted to share our passion for research and healthcare with others in the community through our gift to Mount Sinai,” said Dr. Friedman. Through their generosity, the medical center is equipped with a robust research infrastructure to revolutionize medicine through innovation, collaboration, and clinical and translational research. As a core component of ARI, Mount Sinai will develop a Data-Core system to capture and manage current research and health data, with the ability to expand to a data warehouse and a data-linked biobank. Dr. Friedman, through his philanthropy, has allowed for vital medical research to be organized effectively.

Motivating Mission

The Friedmans are committed philanthropists, working to forge a path for excellence in clinical innovation in Miami. Through their critical contributions, they provide opportunities for increased access to groundbreaking medical advancements for their community. “We have been accepted with open arms to America and are able to live the American dream without having to hide our Jewish faith,” said the Friedmans. “Sharing this with others through philanthropy is a privilege and a fulfillment of dreams and years of hard work.”
