About Dr. Thomas W. Mesko
CHIEF, SECTION OF SURGICAL ONCOLOGY
Dr. Thomas Mesko specializes in minimally invasive procedures to treat cancers of the head and neck, breast, thyroid, parathyroid, soft tissue, skin (melanoma) and gastrointestinal tract. As Chief of the Section of Surgical Oncology, Dr. Mesko ensures that active research is coupled with the latest surgical techniques to treat a wide variety of malignant tumors. He is currently involved in research related to breast cancer and thyroid surgery.
A graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Mesko completed postgraduate training in general surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. This was followed by surgical oncology fellowships at Tulane University Medical Center/Charity Hospital in New Orleans and Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York.
He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, is an active member of the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Breast Surgeons. He is a past President of the Dade County Medical Association.
Dr. Mesko has been recognized as one of “Florida’s Super Doctors” and one of U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Doctors in America.” Dr. Mesko has also been recognized for his expertise in breast cancer and melanoma, minimally invasive surgery, thyroid cancer and parathyroid surgery.
Dr. Mesko is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine, is a clinical faculty member at Barry University and is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the Florida International University School of Medicine. He is actively involved in teaching medical students and surgical residents and has provided post graduate training in surgical oncology.
