Dr. Stephanie Shim is a nationally recognized, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Director of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, and Assistant Professor at Columbia University’s Division of Orthopedics at Mount Sinai Medical Center.
Dr. Shim earned her undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. While in medical school, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society.
From there, Dr. Shim was accepted into the Columbia University Medical Center orthopedic surgery residency program, where she was trained by the world’s leading experts in orthopedics. While in residency, Dr. Shim was elected by her peers and faculty members to serve as the Administrative Chief Resident of the program.

    Dr. Stephanie Shim is a nationally recognized, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Director of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, and Assistant Professor at Columbia University’s Division of Orthopedics at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

    Following residency, Dr. Shim elected to gain further expertise and specialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery. She was accepted into the prestigious Harvard Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship, encompassing Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital, where she had the privilege of working alongside the leaders of hand and upper extremity surgery.

    In practice, Dr. Shim has continued to focus on the management of hand and upper extremity injuries and disorders using cutting-edge technology and innovative techniques. She believes in evidence-based medicine, novel and minimally invasive techniques and treatments, and personalizing care for each of her patients.  Her goal is to partner with her patients to get them back to their desired lifestyles and activities.

    Dr. Shim has published research and given lectures on hand, elbow, and shoulder conditions in both adults and children. Her clinical and research interests include the treatment of hand and upper limb trauma, surgical treatment of overuse injuries and arthritis of the hand and upper limb, and nerve injury, compression, and surgery.

    Dr. Shim is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
