Dr. Janice Santos is a board-certified urologist and Assistant Professor at Columbia University’s Division of Urology at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Santos earned her medical degree in her native Puerto Rico at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan. She completed her residency in urology at Albert Einstein School of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in New York. She then went on to complete a fellowship in urologic oncology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and Neurourology at Columbia University/Presbyterian Hospital in New York.

Following her fellowship, Dr. Santos joined Mount Sinai where she practiced and served as an international proctor for sacral neuromodulation therapy in South America, before moving to California to join Dignity Health Woodland Memorial Hospital. Subsequently, she practiced in Rhode Island holding positions of assistant professor of surgery (urology) at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and consulting surgeon at Women and Infants’ Hospital as part of Brown Urology. At the Miriam Hospital/Rhode Island Hospital, a major teaching affiliate of Brown University, she oversaw the urology section at the program for pelvic floor disorders. Additionally, she served as site director at Rhode Island Hospital for the female pelvic floor medicine and reconstructive surgery fellowship of Women and Infant’s Hospital.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, Dr. Santos Cortes served in the disaster relief work, which led her to relocate back to Miami to rejoin Mount Sinai. Dr. Santos has a special interest in patients with spina bifida who transition to adulthood, and during her time at Brown Urology, she dedicated a significant part of her work on bladder management of patients with tethered cord and connective tissue disorders such as Ehler-Danlos, a population that she enjoys working with very much. Her interests also include comprehensive and integrative approach to pelvic floor disorders. She has further utilized her medical expertise to give regional and national lectures and has authored award-winning professional publications. Dr. Santos Cortes is an active member of various professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Society of Women in Urology, the Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology. She is a member of the American Urological Association. Dr. Santos Cortes is fluent in both English and Spanish.
