President’s Message
March 2026

To our residents, fellows, and graduates,

We hope you and your families have had a joyous and productive start to 2026. As we embark on this new year, we look forward to continued growth, while delivering our brand of clinical excellence to the communities we serve.

Once again, Mount Sinai Medical Center has been recognized as One of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for the 3rd consecutive year, and as One of America’s 250 Best for the 7th consecutive year. Placement on this list puts our medical center among the Top 2% of hospitals in the country for overall clinical excellence.

In addition to this honor, Mount Sinai earned four of America’s 100 Best Hospitals specialty distinctions—Pulmonary Care, Stroke Care, Gastrointestinal Care, and Gastrointestinal Surgery. We also ranked among the top 5 in Florida for Stroke Care, Neurosciences, and Cranial Neurosurgery.

These achievements are based on what matters most: patient outcomes. To determine the top hospitals, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide.

This honor reflects the everyday work of our extraordinary teams. From the ED to the ICU to our specialty programs, our physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals are aligned on one standard—exceptional outcomes and compassionate care for the South Florida community.

A core tenet of our mission is delivering high quality care. In this, we’re excited to announce the renewal as the trusted official medical partner of Unrivaled Basketball. Unrivaled is an off-season professional women’s league that brings some of the WNBA’s top talent to Miami for the spring.

Throughout the league’s season, Mount Sinai’s physicians will continue to provide preseason and postseason physicals, clinical support during games, and access to comprehensive medical services. These services include evaluation, treatment, diagnostics, imaging, and specialty care as needed.

The expert, multidisciplinary team of physicians caring for these elite athletes includes Dr. Danica Vance, our Director of Sports Medicine, Dr. Pooja Sharma, a Non-Operative Sports Medicine physician, and Dr. Medeona Gjergjindreaj, a Cardiologist, all of whom are board-certified.

Lastly, we’re proud to announce Mount Sinai Medical Center’s transformative collaboration with Mayo Clinic.

Last summer, we became the first and only health system in South Florida to join Mayo Clinic’s internationally renowned collaboration network—an alliance that connects more than 50 elite healthcare providers and 70 digital health innovators around the globe.

This strategic alignment provides earlier access to innovative treatments, more personalized and coordinated care, and a direct connection to Mayo Clinic’s AI-powered research tools, clinical best practices, and world-class expertise.

Mount Sinai will have the capability to collaborate on a global scale through the Mayo Clinic’s network, as well as provide professional growth and medical education resources. Our two institutions will participate in joint clinical consultations and strategic planning, all to ensure the highest standard of care is provided for South Florida in an ever-changing health care landscape.

This is a defining moment for Mount Sinai and for the patients we proudly serve. By collaborating with Mayo Clinic, we continue to build on our nationally recognized standard of care with most advanced, evidence-based practices available.

At Mount Sinai, we are committed to continuing to expand our brand of expert, compassionate care. We look forward to shaping the future of health care in South Florida alongside you.

I hope you enjoy reading more updates in this newsletter, and I thank you for choosing Mount Sinai for your education.

Sincerely,

Gino Santorio
