Dr. Regina Melchor is the inaugural Director of Psycho-Oncology at the Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is a fellowship trained Clinical Psychologist in the areas of adult and pediatric psycho-oncology, consultation/liaison psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine. Dr. Melchor specializes in the comprehensive psychological care of cancer patients and their caregivers collaborating closely with the entire health care team. While cultivating a trusting environment, she applies evidence-based treatments with individuals as well as groups, providing interventions such as Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy and Mindfulness-Focused Self-Compassion.

    Dr. Regina Melchor is the inaugural Director of Psycho-Oncology at the Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is a fellowship trained Clinical Psychologist in the areas of adult and pediatric psycho-oncology, consultation/liaison psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine. Dr. Melchor specializes in the comprehensive psychological care of cancer patients and their caregivers collaborating closely with the entire health care team.     A recipient of the Outstanding Clinical Care Award, Dr. Melchor was honored by the American Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS) in recognition of her outstanding work as clinician and her contributions to the field. She has continued to be part of the APOS Professional Education Committee, charged with maintaining professional standards in psycho-oncology.

    Dr. Melchor earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Miami and her graduate degrees at Albizu University in Miami, Florida. After her residency, she completed a two-year clinical fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Weill Cornell Medical School in New York which allowed her to be mentored by pioneers in the field.

    Dr. Melchor served as the Florida Psychological Association’s (FPA) Medical Psychology Division President, as well as the North Central Florida FPA President and Continuing Education Chair. Committed to academia for over 25 years, she has been Assistant Professor at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, in addition to other national and international colleges and universities.

    Dr. Melchor is a member of the American Psychological Association, the International Psychosocial Oncology Society (IPOS), the American Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS) and the Florida Psychological Association.

    Aside from her clinical and academic achievements, Dr. Melchor is known for her empathic stance, transparency and genuine concern for her patients and their families during some of the more difficult times in their lives. She is available for services in English or Spanish as required.
