Dr. Regina Melchor is fellowship trained in adult and pediatric psycho-oncology and consultation/liaison psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine. Dr. Melchor provides outpatient individual psychotherapy and counselling, psychological assessment, consultation, psycho-education and treatment for psychiatric disorders and emotional conditions in cancer patients by addressing their emotional, psychological, cognitive and social adjustment needs. She also provides consultation/liaison inpatient services for cancer patients, often in the context of palliative care. Dr. Melchor works in close collaboration with oncologists, radiologists, surgeons and the entire health care team integrating information and general knowledge about adjustment to site-specific cancers and treatments for patients and their caregivers. She specializes in the comprehensive psychological care and treatment of cancer patients and their families.

Dr. Melchor earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Miami and her graduate degrees at Albizu University in Miami, Florida. She completed her residency at the Institute for Child and Family Health in South Florida. Later, she completed a two year clinical fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Weill Cornell Medical School in New York which allowed her to pursue her passion for psycho-oncology and serve on steering committees for the American Psychosocial Oncology Society.

Dr. Melchor served as the Florida Psychological Association’s (FPA) Medical Psychology Division President, as well as the North Central Florida FPA President and Continuing Education Chair. Committed to academia for over 25 years, Dr. Melchor is an Assistant Professor at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Melchor is a member of the American Psychological Association, the International Psychosocial Oncology Society (IPOS), the American Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS) and the Florida Psychological Association.

She also speaks Spanish.
