Dr. Paul W. Baker is a general surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, with a particular focus on foregut surgery, bariatric surgery, and abdominal wall reconstruction.

Dr. Baker earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida. During his residency, he served as Chief Administrative Resident and Clinical Instructor for New York Medical College and received several honors, including Intern of the Year, Resident of the Year, and separate distinctions recognizing his compassionate surgical care. He then completed his fellowship training in Advanced Gastrointestinal Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatrics from the University of Virginia, where he served as a Clinical Instructor and received the Fellowship Excellence in Teaching Award.

Prior to his medical training, Dr. Baker worked as an EMT with New Orleans Emergency Medical Services and Acadian Companies, contributing to his early foundation in acute patient care. His clinical and academic interests center on bariatric surgery, foregut disease, abdominal wall reconstruction, and advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques, with additional focus on improving perioperative outcomes through ERAS protocols and multidisciplinary weight loss care. He is recognized for his leadership, clinical excellence, and patient-centered approach to surgical care.

Dr. Baker has authored and presented research on several topics, including minimally invasive management of rare endocrine tumors, bariatric surgery, and surgical education. He has presented at departmental grand rounds and academic conferences, including work on obesity medicine and compassion in surgical practice.
