Dr. Kfir Ben-David serves as the Roni Jacobson Endowed Chair of Surgery and the Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, where he leads comprehensive clinical, educational, and operational initiatives.

Education and mentorship are central to Dr. Ben-David’s career. Since becoming Program Director in 2016, he has doubled the size of the surgical residency, strengthened recruitment from top-tier medical schools, and cultivated a culture of inclusivity that has significantly increased the representation of women and underrepresented minorities in surgery. Under his leadership, Mount Sinai’s surgical graduates have consistently matched into highly competitive fellowships nationwide, and the department’s clinical research program has flourished, with faculty and residents collaborating on impactful, peer-reviewed studies.

As a practicing surgeon, Dr. Ben-David specializes in complex minimally invasive gastrointestinal and oncologic surgery. He performs advanced robotic and laparoscopic procedures for esophageal, gastric, and pancreatic cancers, as well as for gastroesophageal reflux disease, achalasia, and complex hiatal hernias. Dr. Ben-David is recognized as the only surgeon in South Florida performing both robotic pancreaticoduodenectomies (Whipple procedures) and robotic esophagectomies, two of the most technically demanding operations in gastrointestinal surgery. His expertise and outcomes in these areas have positioned him among a select group of surgeons nationally with such advanced robotic proficiency. He also started Mount Sinai’s Bariatric Surgery Program, emphasizing precision, innovation, and patient-centered care.

A fellowship-trained surgeon from Duke University, Dr. Ben-David previously served as a tenured Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Florida. He currently holds academic appointments as a Clinical Professor of Surgery at New York Medical College and at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University.

Dr. Ben-David has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in his fields of expertise. He serves on the editorial boards of two surgical journals and is a frequent invited speaker at national and international meetings. His academic work focuses on surgical innovation, outcomes, and quality improvement.

In addition to his clinical and educational roles, Dr. Ben-David serves as Chair of the Hospital Surgical Review Committee, where he leads efforts to improve surgical quality, optimize patient safety, and promote evidence-based performance across service lines.
