Expanding Access: Mount Sinai Westchester Emergency Center
Mount Sinai Medical Center recently celebrated the opening of the Mount Sinai Westchester Emergency Center with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, marking a transformative milestone in its commitment to expanding access to high-quality healthcare across South Florida. As the largest freestanding emergency department in the Mount Sinai system and the first phase of what will become Mount Sinai’s second hospital campus in South Florida, the new center reflects a long-term investment in meeting the growing needs of the community.
Opening to patients on October 5, the emergency center occupies the 32,150-square-foot ground floor of a newly constructed four-story, 112,000-square-foot facility. Designed with the future in mind, the center features 26 emergency treatment bays and advanced on-site imaging, including MRI, CT, and ultrasound technology, enabling patients to receive timely diagnoses and treatment without having to travel elsewhere for additional testing.
For Westchester families, the new facility represents much more than a building. It brings nationally recognized emergency care closer to home, reducing travel times during critical moments when every minute matters. As one of Miami-Dade County’s fastest-growing communities continues to expand, the center will help ensure residents have convenient access to the expert physicians, advanced technology, and compassionate care they need, when they need it most.
The emergency center also includes a dedicated Baker Act receiving unit integrated with Mount Sinai’s behavioral health services, providing specialized care for individuals experiencing mental health crises in a purpose-built environment designed to support safety, dignity, and seamless access to ongoing treatment.
Importantly, this milestone is only the beginning. The three floors above the emergency center were engineered from the outset to accommodate future inpatient, procedural, and specialty care services, laying the foundation for a comprehensive healthcare campus that will serve South Florida families for generations to come. The project reflects Mount Sinai’s enduring mission to bring exceptional care closer to the communities it serves while strengthening the region’s healthcare infrastructure for the future.
Through strategic investments such as the Westchester Emergency Center, Mount Sinai continues to expand healthcare access, address unmet community needs, and ensure more patients can receive high-quality, compassionate care close to home.
