Dr. Colleen Allison McFarland is a primary care sports medicine physician who earned her medical degree from Florida State University College of Medicine in Tallahassee, Florida. She completed her emergency medicine residency training at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System, where she served as Chief Resident during her final year of training. She also completed a primary care sports medicine fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Throughout her fellowship training, Dr. McFarland provided comprehensive sports medicine coverage for collegiate, high school, and professional athletic programs, including teams at the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and Robert Morris University. Her experience also includes special event coverage for the Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp, the State Farm Women’s College Volleyball Showcase, the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler, and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.

Dr. McFarland’s clinical interests include primary care, emergency medicine, and sports medicine. Her background in exercise physiology and emergency medicine has shaped her patient-centered approach to sports medicine, emphasizing injury prevention, performance optimization, and safe return to activity.

Dr. McFarland has contributed to publications and presentations that focused on hypertension education, emergency department quality improvement initiatives, and sports medicine case studies. She has also given lectures on other topics such as marine envenomation and hematology.

Dr. McFarland is certified in basic life support (BLS), advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS), and advanced trauma life support (ATLS).
