Graduate Medical Education Updates: Spring 2026

Graduate medical education updates

As South Florida’s oldest statutory teaching hospital, Mount Sinai Medical Center is committed to expanding and enhancing our educational offerings through a variety of initiatives and partnerships.

Below are a few recent program highlights:

  • We are pleased to announce that Alan Scott Polackwich, MD, Director of Male Infertility and Erectile Dysfunction, will assume the role as Program Director for the Urology Residency Program at Mount Sinai’s Andrew Witkoff Center for Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Polackwich is a member of the American Urologic Association, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Sexual Medicine Society of North America, the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction, and the American Society of Andrology. He has authored and co-authored numerous original peer-reviewed articles as well as book chapters on male fertility, hormonal dysfunction, erectile dysfunction, and chronic genital pain. He has also been an invited speaker at numerous national and international conferences on these subjects. We look forward to his tenure.
  • We are also pleased to announce that Jennifer Dianne Davies, MD, Director for the Wound Healing Center, will assume the role as Program Director for the General Surgery Residency at Mount Sinai’s Andrew Witkoff Center for Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Davies has authored and contributed to publications and presentations on topics related to critical care and burn injuries with additional focus on gastroenterology, laparoscopy surgery, hernia repair and BRCA gene mutations. Dr. Davies is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Board of Wound Management, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Medical Association. We look forward to her tenure.
  • Mount Sinai Medical Center has expanded the General Surgery Residency from three to four residents per year. This expansion allows us to continue our commitment to training the next generation of physicians, and we’re excited to continue growing in this specialty.
  • We are proud to have continued accreditation for Mount Sinai’s Andrew Witkoff Center for Graduate Medical Education and all training programs by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). This certification displays our dedication to a premier education experience for our residents and fellows.
  • Mount Sinai Medical Center has received approval from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), allowing us to enact an electrophysiology fellowship program. The director of this program will be Raul Weiss, MD, FAHA, FACC, FHRS, Director of the William E. & Molly Ford Cardiac Electrophysiology Center. We’re looking forward to expanding our range in this specialty.
  • Mount Sinai Medical Center is excited to welcome back medical students from New York Medical College for rotations. Last year, we started eight students participating in core, required rotations as well as electives. Through the success of this affiliation, we’re proud to see significant growth and are excited to develop this relationship further.
  • Match Day was March 20, 2026. Fourth-year students from medical schools across the nation learned their placements for residency. At Mount Sinai, we successfully filled all of our residency spots and learned the names of approximately 80 residents and fellows who will be joining us in late June 2026 as the next class of physicians-in-training.
  • Resident & Fellow Research Day takes place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. This is an annual showcase of resident and fellow scholarly activity, and we’re excited to support our students’ incredible portfolio of work.
  • Resident & Fellow of the Year winners will be announced on Friday, May 15, 2026. This annual event is based on voting by allied health professionals across the hospital, including nurses, laboratory staff, and radiology and OR staff. Four individuals will be honored: two for Clinical Excellence and two for Professionalism.

Our dedication to innovative clinical trials, graduate medical education, and groundbreaking research solidify our standing as a nationally renowned care provider.
