Treatment

Patients experiencing memory disorders and dementia benefit from the wide array of medical resources available through the Wien Center, getting comprehensive treatment plans that help both the patient and their caregivers.

Treatment may include referrals to other medical specialists, carefully supervised drug therapies and behavior management programs. Patients and caregivers are also referred to various resources in the community to help them cope with this devastating disease.

Despite the significant progress made in our understanding of this disorder, there are still many unanswered questions. Currently there are several medications approved for the treatment of dementia, however these are only symptomatic treatments therefore their action will slow down the progression of the disorder but will not stop the process. Given the need for better diagnostic tools and treatments, memory disorder centers across the United States and around the world are participating in joint research efforts to optimize diagnosis and treatment. As part of this process, cutting-edge technologies and medications are being investigated at the Wien Center on a regular basis. Patients and families interested in research options can participate in different studies that are evaluating exciting new tools in the diagnosis and treatment of this challenging disorder.
