For patients whose respiratory function is severely compromised, leaving the Intensive Care Unit is a big accomplishment--and at Mount Sinai Medical Center, we're proud every time we can help make that happen. Our concern for our respiratory patients doesn't stop there. In many cases, respiratory patients--while they may be well enough to leave the ICU--continue to benefit from care that is focused on pulmonary function. That's where our unique Respiratory Recovery Program comes in.

The Respiratory Recovery Program is a transitional, acute-care program that uses a multidisciplinary approach to improve breathing and lung function in a closely monitored, supportive environment. Our goal is to ensure that each of our patients has the necessary tools to maximize individual recovery.

Who Can Benefit from the Program?

Primarily designed for ventilator-dependent patients, the program sees patients with a wide variety of medical conditions. They include:

  • Respiratory and cardio-pulmonary disorders
  • Catastrophic illness and multi-system failure
  • Multiple trauma
  • Brain injuries
  • Neuromuscular disorders

To find out if you, your loved one, or your patient would benefit from our Respiratory Recovery Program, please call us at 305-695-7621.

*Please note, this is a transitional program designed to maximize recovery. Mount Sinai does not offer long-term or permanent placement for ventilator-dependent patients.
