Biography

Robert E. Beasley, M.D. is director of Mount Sinai's Vascular/Interventional Radiology Lab and Evanescence Vein Center. Board certified in vascular and interventional radiology, Dr. Beasley's areas of expertise include the endovascular repair of abdominal aortic and thoracic aortic aneurysms, as well as laser atherectomy, angioplasty and stenting to treat peripheral vascular disease, critical limb ischemia, diabetic ulcers and renal vascular hypertension.

Guided by fluoroscopy, ultrasound and computerized tomography (CT), interventional radiologists perform minimally invasive procedures that sometimes can be done on an outpatient basis, sparing patients the pain, risk and lengthy recovery associated with 'open' surgery. An expert in carotid artery stenting, Dr. Beasley participated in a clinical trial that paved the way for Medicare to approve the treatment as a reimbursable procedure. He also specializes in uterine fibroid embolization, the process of injecting small beads into uterine arteries to block the flow of blood to fibroids, causing them to shrink and wither away. He also is skilled in the chemo embolization of inoperable liver tumors – injecting specially treated beads into liver arteries to block the flow of blood to the tumors while simultaneously delivering chemotherapy.

A graduate of Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University, Dr. Beasley completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, where he also was a fellow in vascular interventional procedures and neuroradiology. He has participated in 19 clinical trials and authored numerous presentations and articles on cardiovascular disease and treatment.
