Biography

Adrian Legaspi, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a fellowship trained surgical oncologist with extensive expertise in minimally invasive and robotic treatment of esophageal, colorectal, gastric, hepatic, pancreatic and internal cancer. He also specializes in breast and thyroid cancers, as well as soft tissue sarcomas and melanomas. He currently serves as the program director of Hepatobiliary and Foregut Oncology at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Dr. Legaspi received his medical degree from the Army Medical School in Mexico City, Mexico in 1976, and went on to complete his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed two years of a dual appointment as a clinical research fellow at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and then trained an additional two years in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

After completing his extensive training, Dr. Legaspi joined the Miller School of Medicine at University of Miami, where he was appointed as an associate professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology and received a research grant from the American Cancer Society. He started private practice in 1990 and has been practicing clinical surgical oncology since then. Dr. Legaspi joined the surgical team at Mount Sinai in 2009. He currently holds an appointment as a clinical associate professor of surgical oncology at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Legaspi has developed expertise in cutting edge procedures, such as the microwave ablation system for treating primary and secondary hepatic malignancies.

El Dr. Adrian Legaspi, miembro del American College of Surgeons, es un cirujano especializado en oncología con vasta experiencia en el tratamiento robótico y mínimamente invasivo del cáncer interno, pancreático, hepático, gástrico, colorrectal y esofágico. También se especializa en el cáncer de mama y de tiroides, así como en melanomas y sarcomas del tejido blando. En la actualidad, es director del Departamento de Oncología Hepatobiliar y del Intestino Anterior en el Mount Sinai Medical Center.

El Dr. Legaspi se graduó en 1976, en la Escuela Médico Militar de Ciudad de México, México, y llevó a cabo su residencia en la Universidad de Medicina y Odontología de Nueva Jersey. Durante dos años, se desempeñó en calidad de asociado en investigaciones clínicas, tanto en el New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center como en el Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center; posteriormente, pasó otros dos años capacitándose en cirugía oncológica, en el Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
