Mammatome Breast Biopsy System

The vacuum-assisted Mammatome Breast Biopsy System is a minimally invasive technique used to further examine abnormalities in breast tissue. During the procedure, a small incision of about one-quarter inch is made in the breast, through which a probe is inserted. A vacuum is used to collect tissue in the hollow chamber of the probe. The vacuuming technique allows several tissue samples to be collected at once, which results in a more accurate examination of the tissue. The technique also reduces internal scarring in the breast tissue that can complicate future examination. The outpatient procedure causes minimal discomfort, and patients don’t need stitches.
