Mount Sinai’s Center of Excellence in Cancer Care

Mount Sinai Medical Center's Comprehensive Cancer Center takes a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating cancer. The award-winning cancer treatment program cares for the whole person – body, mind and spirit. Medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, and members of our multidisciplinary support team including pain specialists, psychologists, social workers, and nutritionists contribute their expertise to create the most effective individualized treatment plan for each patient.

Research

Patients benefit immeasurably from our participation in the adult Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP). This prestigious grant-funded program, created by the National Cancer Institute, allows us to take part in promising clinical trials that offer the most cutting-edge cancer treatments. CCOP provides our patients with access to effective treatments years before they are widely available. Click here to learn more.

Awards

Our high quality of care has been recognized by several awards. Recent highlights include:

  • In December 2008, the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer granted a three-year accreditation to the Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Center. This accreditation distinguishes cancer centers for their quality. Mount Sinai's on-site evaluation led by a physician surveyor assessed compliance with standards representing the full scope of our program, including cancer committee leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, quality improvement and cancer data management. This commendation indicates that the standards for cancer programs were exceeded
  • The Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons in 2006 and 2009. We were one of only two cancer centers in Florida to receive this three-year award consecutively.
  • The Clinical Trial Participation Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology in 2005. This award went to our Community Clinical Oncology Program for its efforts to increase clinical trial participation and expand the demographic range of participants.
  • The Comprehensive Breast Center was the first center in Florida to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)
