Our
Osteopathic Internal Medicine Residency is a three year Specialty Track program
incorporating a rotating internship in the first year of Internal Medicine
training. The program is both ACOI accredited and AOA accredited. Currently, our
program is approved for 18 positions: six per year. Our residents train closely
with residents and fellows from many specialties. There are approximately 21
different programs at MSMC. We work closely with the Allopathic Internal
Medicine Residents, sharing all educational conferences as well as many core
rotations. Mount Sinai has a 50-year history of medical education. The program
is affiliated with Jackson Memorial Hospital and Miami Children's Hospital both
of which provide opportunities for core and elective rotations. We are members
of the Consortium of Excellence in Medical Education with Nova Southeastern
University.
In
the program's 10-year history, our residents have achieved exceptional results
on their board scores in line with those of other programs at MSMC. For the year
2004, our AOBIM pass rate was 80%. For the year 2005, our pass rate was 100%. We
anticipate continuing with this level of board pass rates.
Our
program constantly evaluates itself by both resident input and attending
feedback. During our monthly sessions, we evaluate housestaff issues and rely
heavily on resident feedback to garner positive advancements within the program.
On a daily basis, we have teaching rounds and noon conferences. There are weekly
Grand Rounds and Journal Clubs, and monthly Morbidity and Mortality conferences.
We take the responsibility of teaching our housestaff very seriously and
re-evaluate their responsibilities constantly. We constantly strive for a
program that makes us proud. We feel that the program provides an optimal
balance between hands-on patient care and classroom teaching.
Our
residency prepares residents to proceed confidently and successfully into
practice. While many of our residents have stayed in the South Florida area,
specifically at MSMC, others have opted to continue their education. Many of our
program graduates have received fellowships in other premier, competitive
programs, such as: Endocrinology at Jackson Memorial Hospital,
Hematology/Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Pulmonary/Critical Care at St.
Elizabeth's Medical Center/Tufts University, as well as Gastroenterology at
Botsford General Hospital. Essentially, with a Mount Sinai Medical Center
residency program behind you, many doors will be opened for further educational
and employment opportunities.
The program is accepting only electronic applications on the ERAS
website. To apply to our program through ERAS, you will need a validation token
from your Dean's Office. Then go to www.aamc.org/eras, and click on MyERAS on the right side of the screen. If you have any
